Man, 50, arrested for allegedly defiling 14-year-old girl

A 50-year-old man has been apprehended by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Northern Regional Police Command for allegedly causing a 14-year-old primary school pupil at Nyanshegu, a suburb of Tamale, to become pregnant.

The individual, identified as Mohammed, is also accused of having taken the girl to a private healthcare facility where the pregnancy was terminated without her parents’ consent.

He has been brought before the Tamale Magistrate Court 1, overseen by His Worship Stephen Tabiri, and has been remanded in custody.

The accused is facing charges of defilement and causing abortion and is scheduled to reappear in court on March 4, 2026.

Speaking in an interview, the girl’s father, Mohammed Salifu, expressed that the family is resolute in their pursuit of justice.

He revealed that several community chiefs and opinion leaders had approached them in an effort to persuade the family to resolve the issue outside of court, but they declined.

“Two chiefs and some opinion leaders in our community came to our house to plead with us to withdraw the case, but we refused and insisted that we want justice for my daughter,” he said in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report on Channel One News.

Reports suggest that both the family and other individuals associated with the case have allegedly received threats from individuals believed to be connected to the accused.
