Kumawood actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, could spend the next five years of his life behind bars.
Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu explains the charges labelled against the actor carry a maximum sentence of half a decade.
Lil Win has been charged with dangerous driving and negligently causing harm following his involvement in an accident that claimed the life of a 3-year-old.
The accident occurred on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Amakom in Kumasi.
Speaking in an interview, the renowned legal practitioner said while fines are typical in such cases, imprisonment is possible, especially given the severity of the accident and the death of a toddler.
“In terms of penalties, imprisonment is possible, but fines are typically imposed. However, in particularly severe cases, imprisonment can occur, and it can be up to five years,” he said.
He stressed the importance of imposing stronger penalties to deter reckless drivers in Ghana, where more than 2000 lives are lost to road accidents every year.

According to Martin Kpebu, imposing stricter sentences on the accused would send a strong message and promote road safety.
“We don’t often charge them with manslaughter”.
He added that it is usually reckless, dangerous driving and other offences that the police usually charge them with.
“Yes, over the past decade, more than 2000 people have died annually in road accidents. Yet, we don’t see drivers being imprisoned for years,” he noted on Joy FM.
Meanwhile, Lil Win is scheduled to reappear in court on Thursday, June 27, 2024.
