Laporta retains as Barcelona president

In a resounding endorsement of his current project, Joan Laporta has been re-elected as President of FC Barcelona, securing a dominant 68.18% of the vote. The victory grants Laporta a five-year mandate, ensuring his leadership continues through 2031.

The election, held amidst the backdrop of the club’s massive Spotify Camp Nou renovation, saw members prioritize continuity over radical change.

Laporta’s campaign, “Defensem el Barça,” successfully leaned on the sporting success of the first team and the stabilization of the club’s fragile economy as proof of his effectiveness.

While several pre-candidates initially entered the race, only two men reached the final ballot.

Joan Laporta: The incumbent won with 32,934 votes, leveraging his charisma and the successful integration of La Masia’s newest golden generation.

Víctor Font: The “Sí al Futur” leader finished second with 14,385 votes (29.78%). Despite a sophisticated technological and financial proposal, Font struggled to break Laporta’s emotional connection with the socis.

With the mandate now settled, Laporta faces a critical half-decade.  His primary objectives remain clear: finalizing the Espai Barça infrastructure project and fully restoring the club’s “1:1” financial standing in La Liga.

For now, the message from the stands is clear: in Laporta, Barcelona trusts.
