KMA warns against paying for Kejetia Phase Two shops

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has cautioned the public against handing over money to individuals claiming they can secure shops at the Kejetia Market Phase Two project.

Mayor Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi spoke in an interview on Friday, February 27, 2026, revealing that “faceless people have been collecting money from some traders and individuals with the assurance that they will be given shops at phase two of the Kejetia redevelopment project.”

The redevelopment of the Kumasi Central Market, whose second phase was initiated by former President Nana Akufo-Addo on May 2, 2019, has seen repeated attempts by fraudsters to lure businesspeople into paying for shop allocations that do not yet exist.

Reports of such incidents first emerged in January this year, prompting the Assembly to address the issue publicly.

Mayor Boadi clarified that the Assembly has not authorised anyone to collect payments from traders for spaces in the project, which remains incomplete after work was halted in 2024. He stressed that anyone who pays money at this stage does so at their own risk.

He reassured the public that once the project reaches completion, the Assembly will release official information regarding shop allocation, including the amounts to be paid and the payment process.

“It must be noted that no decision has been taken on the amount to be paid for the allocation of shops when the project is finally completed.

At the appropriate time, all information relating to the allocation and payment for shops and the modalities for payment will be made public,” he said.

The Assembly urged traders and prospective tenants to remain vigilant and only rely on official communications from the KMA.
