Kasoa flood: Body of 12-year-old boy found after 4 days
Twelve-year-old David, who was swept away by the Okrudu River in Kasoa, has been found dead after a four-day search.
The incident happened in the Kasoa American Town area of the Awutu Senya East Municipality in the Central Region during a heavy downpour.
David had reportedly gone out to pick up his younger siblings from school when the tragedy struck.
According to eyewitnesses, he lost his slippers in a nearby gutter and chased after them.
In doing so, he unknowingly headed toward the Okrudu River, where strong floodwaters pulled him in.
His body was discovered several kilometers away in Fijai, within the Gomoa East District.
The discovery brought a heartbreaking end to days of searching by local authorities, volunteers, and residents.
Shadrach Boakye Yiadom, the Assembly Member for the Kasoa American Town Electoral Area, confirmed the recovery of David’s body.
He offered his sympathies to the grieving family and called for increased vigilance during the rainy season.
David’s death has sparked renewed concern among residents about the dangers posed by poor drainage systems and the lack of protective infrastructure around rivers in the area.
Local authorities are now facing pressure to take urgent steps to improve safety and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
