The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu has slammed the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) claim of President Akufo-Addo speaking in a locally acquired foreign accent.

The General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Aseidu Nketia on September 10 accused President Akufo-Addo of speaking in a borrowed accent in his attempt to impress Ghanaians in his fight against corruption.

“He believes somehow, that flowery speeches and empty rhetoric delivered in an acquired accent is what convinces people that corruption is being fought.” Aseidu Nketsia said at the media briefing on Tuesday, September 10.

According to him , President Akufo-Addo  has failed woefully in the fight against corruption and must accept full responsibility for being the most corrupt President in Ghanaian history.

“President Akufo-Addo lowered the bar for the fight against corruption at the bar conference…..all the talk of incorruptibility on account of age and his life experiences are only artificial creations designed to clothe him in borrowed garb while he presides over the biggest heist in Ghanaian political and governance history.”  Aseidu Nketsia noted.

Responding to these claims, John Boadu says the President couldn’t have inherited his grandfather’s accent for use in today’s politics.

“I dare to say that speaking eloquently is a problem for the NDC, he couldn’t have carried his grandfather’s accents to modern day politics and it is important that, that is acknowledge that, it is a problem for the NDC…… President Nana Akufo-Addo is resolved in fighting corruption,” he said.
