The General Secretary of governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has accused former President Mahama of forcing the NDC to kick against the aborted referendum.
According to him, the 2020 flag bearer of the opposition party forced his party to deny the Ghanaian citizenry of what is good for the country.
“A Presidential candidate, John Mahama, has forced his party to forego what is good for the nation for his own narrow-minded political calculations. John Mahama is only interested in power. He’s not interested in empowering people at the grass root level” he stated.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) joined the ‘No’ vote campaign with a call on Ghanaians to do same.
But the NPP said it was shocked their opponent had made a ‘U-turn’ on the referendum.
According to the ruling party, the actions of the NDC was a betrayal to Ghanaians.
President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo on Sunday in a televised broadcast announced the withdrawal of the December 17 referendum.
According to him, the decision was as a result of the lack of consensus on the exercise.
But even after the big announcement, General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu still seems to displeased with the stance of the opposition.
At the press briefing, he had some strong words to describe the flag bearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama.
“He [John Mahama] is not interested in empowering our governance structures where it matters most. He’s not improving accountability at the local government level. He’s not interested in protecting the winner takes all culture. He’s interested in maintaining all the executive power at the top of the central government” he noted.
