Joe Ghartey and three others fail to secure spot in NPP presidential race

Four flagbearer hopefuls failed to garner enough votes to qualify for the next phase of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential race.

They are; former Railways Minister, Joe Ghartey, former NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, an energy expert, Kwadwo Poku and Kofi Konadu Apraku.

The NPP will hold a run-off on Saturday, September 2, to determine fate of Francis Addai-Nimoh and Boakye Agyarko, who both secured the fifth spot.

Prof Mike Oquaye made this known shortly after the Electoral Commission announced the official results placing the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in first place.

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia won the super delegates conference with a total of 629 votes, representing 68.15% of the vote.

Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong placed second, with 15.12% of the votes, while Alan Kyerematen was third, with 10.88% of votes cast.

Former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, was in fourth place with 4.12%.
