Interior Minister imposes curfew on Sampa until further notice

The Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, has imposed a curfew on Sampa Township in Jaman North District of the Bono Region through an Executive Instrument.

The curfew hours, which span from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am each day, effective Thursday, October 24, 2024, follow some chieftaincy disputes recorded in the town.

The directive was based on advice from the Bono Regional Security Council.

In a press statement, the minister urged all leaders and residents in the community to adhere to the curfew hours or face dire consequences.

“Government urges Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, Youth and People of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their grievances into ensuring peace in the area,” excerpts of the statement noted.

Additionally, a total ban has been placed on carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapon in the affected communities and their environs.

Anyone found with such items will face arrest and prosecution.

Meanwhile, the minister has renewed the curfew hours imposed on Drobo, Japekrom, Babianiha, Kwasibourkrom, Mpuasu, Basekrom, Kojokesekrom and Katakyiekrom in the Jaman South Municipality of the Bono Region.

The curfew now runs from 8:00 p.m to 5:00 a.m effective Thursday, October 24, 2024.

The Ministry for the Interior is working to ensure the safety and security of all citizens in the affected communities and urges cooperation from the public to maintain peace and order.
