A flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong is confident of defeating the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama, if elected.
The Assin Central lawmaker expressed his conviction that Ghanaians are seeking a leader with honesty and boldness, qualities he believes he possesses in abundance.
“I will beat Mahama hands down, no doubt about it. Everywhere, what Ghanaians are expecting is an honest and bold leader,” he said this shortly after casting his vote at the Pentecost Worship Center in Assin Fosu.
Meanwhile, voting has commenced across the 275 constituencies, where over 200,000 NPP delegates are expected to cast their vote to elect a new leader.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, MP for Assin Central Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Agriculture Minister Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie, and former MP for Asante Mampong, Francis Addai-Nimoh are the final contenders.
While various pollsters have tipped Vice President Dr. Bawumia as the favorite, the competition is expected to be fierce, particularly from Kennedy Agyapong.
On the ballot paper, the Assin Central MP occupies the top slot, followed by Dr. Bawumia in the second position, and Dr. Afriyie Akoto and Mr Addai-Nimoh in the third and fourth slots, respectively.
The outcome of this election will significantly influence the NPP’s strategy for the 2024 elections.
