The Ministry of Health has announced plans to investigate concerns raised in an investigative report by The Fourth Estate on conditions at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, widely known as Ridge Hospital, following growing public reaction online.

In a press release, the Ministry said it had taken notice of the report, which has circulated widely on social media and sparked conversations among patients, health workers and the general public.

The Ministry acknowledged the anxiety such reports can cause, especially for families who depend on public health facilities for care.

It expressed sympathy for patients and relatives who may have had unpleasant experiences while seeking treatment, noting that no patient should feel unsafe, ignored or poorly treated when accessing healthcare services.

The Ministry reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reducing the physical, emotional and financial strain patients face when visiting hospitals.

It said improving access to quality care remains a priority, particularly in major referral facilities such as Ridge Hospital, which serves thousands of people daily.

However, the Ministry said some of the issues raised in the report were troubling and could not be ignored.

According to the statement, the allegations require careful assessment to establish the facts and determine the appropriate response.

As a result, the Ministry has begun steps to set up a committee to investigate the claims in detail.

The committee will be tasked with reviewing the findings, engaging relevant parties and making recommendations aimed at strengthening accountability and service delivery.

“The Ministry considers the issues raised as serious and deserving of thorough examination,” the statement said.

The investigative committee is expected to complete its work and submit a report within fourteen working days.

The Ministry has also called on all stakeholders, including media organisations and health professionals, to cooperate fully to ensure a transparent and credible process that ultimately benefits patients.
