He set me up — Rice hails Gyökeres after Bayern clash

Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice has praised striker Viktor Gyökeres for his contribution to his goal, highlighting the Swedish forward’s impact after coming off the bench against Bayern Munich.

Speaking after the match, Rice credited Gyökeres for his intelligent movement and link-up play, which helped create the opportunity for him to find the net.

“Viktor Gyökeres has been making such an impact coming off the bench. He made some great runs tonight and he set me up for the goal,” Rice said.

The England international also explained the tactical demands of facing Bayern, noting that their man-to-man pressing system required Arsenal players to make intelligent movements to exploit spaces across the pitch.

“When you play against Bayern, a team that go man-to-man over the whole pitch, you have to apply certain principles and concepts. You’re constantly thinking about where you can move into the space,” he added.

Rice described the sequence leading to his goal, explaining how quick passing involving Noni Madueke and Gyökeres helped him break through the opposition defence.

“For the goal, Noni Madueke’s one-touch set, Gyökeres’ one-touch set, I kept running. Them little movements get you through on goal, I was so happy to score,” he said.
