Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced a scheduled shutdown of the Weija Water Treatment Plant on Friday, December 19, 2025, to facilitate essential maintenance activities aimed at enhancing water service delivery.
In a statement released by its Communications Department, the company indicated that the plant will cease operations from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to enable critical technical work as part of ongoing initiatives to ensure the reliability and integrity of its water infrastructure.
The temporary shutdown is anticipated to disrupt water supply to various areas within the Greater Accra Region, including Accra Central, Dansoman, Mallam, Weija, Gbawe, McCarthy Hill, Kaneshie, Odorkor, Korle Bu, Mamprobi, Chorkor, Abeka La Paz, Tesano, Kokomlemle, Alajo, Nima, Maamobi, Dzorwulu, Abelemkpe, and neighbouring communities.
The management of the company has assured customers and stakeholders that sufficient resources and logistics have been mobilised to ensure the maintenance work is completed within the planned timeframe. The technical teams, as stated, will work diligently to restore operations promptly following the exercise.
Customers in the affected regions have been advised to store adequate water before the shutdown to mitigate the impact on households, businesses, and institutions.
The Managing Director of GWL, Mr. Adam Mutawakilu, characterised the maintenance exercise as vital for maintaining the integrity of the company’s water infrastructure and enhancing service delivery.
“We have deployed all necessary resources and will work diligently to complete the task on schedule,” he stated.
The company expressed regret for any inconvenience that the temporary disruption may cause and appealed to the public for cooperation and understanding as it undertakes the work to improve long-term water supply reliability.
