GPL 2024/25: Accra Lions secures first league win

Accra Lions secured their first win of the season after beating Nsoatreman FC 3-1 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra.

First-half goals from Salman Faris Tahiru and Ezekiel Alladoh as well as a strike from Blessing Asuman in the second half ensured the host picked their first three points of the campaign. Abdul Rahman Mohammed netted the consolation for the visitors in the second half.

With the Accra Sports Stadium closed down for renovation work, Accra Lions were forced to adopt the UG Stadium, as they returned from a trip to Tamale.

The hosts got off to a bright start with Blessing Asuman getting the game’s first chance after five minutes.

Moments later, Nsoatreman FC handed Accra Lions a scare after Kwabena Adu Meider hit the post before the Accra-based club responded with a swift counter, leading the opener by Salman Faris. The winger pounced on a mistake by the visitors before slotting home after 15 minutes.

A minute later, Alladoh doubled the lead with a brilliant piece of play in the box, dazing his marker with a sweet footwork.

Nsoatreman bounced back from their sleep and seized control, dominating possession with Abdul Rahman Mohammed coming close.

Their dominance paid off three minutes after the break after Abdul Rahman fired home following a poor clearance from a corner kick.

The visitors continued to push for a leveller but they were caught on a counter with Baba Apiiga breaking on the left before sending in a cross which was first met by Alladoh and finished by Asuman.

Accra Lions came close twice with glaring chances falling to Alladoh and Lucky Nwafor in the dying minutes.
