Ghanaians are naturally born bad – MP

Outspoken Member of Parliament for Assin Central in the Central Region, Kennedy Adjapong is convinced Ghanaians are naturally born bad.

The MP’s conviction comes on the back of how systems and organizations are haphazardly managed in this country.

Kennedy Adjapong commenting on the abandoned Madina-Adenta footbridge in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report, said “ We need to enforce the law, these pedestrians were the same people who burnt car tyres, woods in the middle of the road demanding for a footbridge because cars were knocking down pupils and other road users, the finance Minister spent over two hundred million cedis to fix the bridge”

The Member of Parliament said, the design of the footbridge is a possible put-off for pedestrians, he lashed at the architect questioning their qualification to practice

“ Did Ghanaian engineers go to school, look at the length of the bridge…I haven’t seen some before, the footbridge is too long and I believe that is the reason pedestrians are refusing to use it…..it is the same everywhere in the country and it discourages people from using it”

“ The irony is that Ghanaians are quick to compare when they travel outside but lack the discipline to abide by laws in their own country…..people compare Ghana to Rwanda but let me tell you, laws are enforced in Rwanda, you just don’t do anything there and walk freely, Ghanaians like “fa ma nyame” too much and that is why we are where we are today” he said.

The Madina-Adenta footbridge was completed sometime in May 2019 after a series of demonstrations by residents and pedestrians in and around Madina.

Five months after the completion of the bridge, pedestrians have refused to use it, competing with cars for space on the road, this development compelled the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) at the Madina Police Station to arrest about 100 pedestrians who failed to use the Madina-Adentan footbridges on Wednesday, October 16.
