Ghanaian prominent Economist Dr. Joe Abbey has passed on.
It is reported that Dr. Abbey died over the weekend after some short illness.
He died at age 82.
Dr. Joe Abbey until his demise was the Executive Directive of the Center for Policy Analysis (CEPA) established in 1993 under Ghana’s Companies Code, 1963 (Act 179) to provide analysis and perspectives on economic policy issues of Ghana and the developing world.
He also served as a Government Statistician and a Diplomat.
Moreover, Dr. Abbey once undertook consultancy work for the Ministry of Finance in Ghana.
The late Dr. Joe Abbey used to contribute to panel discussions on how to boost Ghana’s economy.
When it comes to the nation’s great Economists, Dr Joe Abbey’s name always pops up in the list.
Rest in perfect peace. Your contribution to Ghana is enormous and Ghana has lost a true Ghanaian. You gave us hope for Ghana through your analysis on economic matters. Of late whenever I came across your telephone number on my phone directory, you do come to mind.
