Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has assured the youth of a brighter future as Ghana is on the right path.

In his Christmas message, Mr. Bagbin said despite the nation’s shortcomings, Ghana remains the standard for other African countries.

He said Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy that has earned the admiration of others on the continent is enough to keep the youth in good spirits.

“Please the youth; more importantly, the future is bright. I can assure you that Ghana is on the right path. We still remain the beacon of hope, the beacon of democracy, and the country that our colleagues in the African continent are looking up to. Ghana is still seen as a mecca of the black race.

“We might have faulted, but people still look up to us. Particularly as we have maintained this multiparty democracy for 32 good years. The fact that we are being eulogised by other countries is something that will fulfil and keep our spirit in a good mood to go on,” the Speaker said.

This follows a recent Afrobarometer survey, which revealed that most Ghanaians are considering emigrating, with economic improvement cited as the primary motivation.

Conducted in December 2024, the survey found that 61 per cent of respondents expressed a desire to leave the country, a sharp increase from the 41 per cent recorded in 2017.

Of the 61 per cent, 44 per cent reported having considered emigration “a lot”, while 17 per cent said they had considered it “somewhat” or “a little bit.”

The survey also highlighted that 44 per cent of Ghanaians have actively thought about leaving the country, a dramatic rise of over 100 per cent compared to the 20 per cent reported in 2017.

He further wished the whole country a merry Christmas and a prosperous new year.
