GACL bans unapproved cultural welcomes at Airports

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced new restrictions on cultural performances at the nation’s airports, warning that such activities will no longer be allowed without prior approval.

In a public notice, the company said traditional displays, including drumming, dancing, singing, chanting and ululations, must receive official clearance from airport management before they can be held at any airport terminal.

GACL explained that individuals, families or groups planning to welcome guests with cultural performances are required to seek permission from its Commercial Services Department.

Without this authorisation, performers and their instruments will be denied access to airport premises.

The company said the decision follows a rise in unapproved cultural welcomes at arrival areas, which have frequently disrupted airport operations and the smooth movement of passengers.

Although no specific penalties were outlined, GACL stressed that airport activities are tightly regulated and must always prioritise safety, order and efficiency.

GACL, therefore, urged those interested in organising approved cultural welcomes to engage the Commercial Services Department well in advance and appealed to the public to cooperate with airport authorities to maintain professionalism and discipline at Ghana’s international airports.
