Four Senators From Adamawa, Zamfara Dump PDP, Defect To Ruling APC

Their letters of defection were read by Akpabio during the Senate’s plenary session on Wednesday.

Four senators have resigned their membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defections were formally announced during plenary after the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, read letters submitted by the lawmakers notifying the Senate of their decision to leave the opposition party.

The senators who defected include Aminu Iya Abbas, who represents Adamawa Central; Amos Yohanna, representing Adamawa North; and Ikra Aliyu Bilbis, representing Zamfara North.

Their letters of defection were read by Akpabio during the Senate’s plenary session on Wednesday.

Earlier, on Tuesday, March 10, Ipalibo Harry Banigo, who represents Rivers West Senatorial District, had also announced her resignation from the PDP and her decision to join the APC.

The latest defections further reduce the number of PDP lawmakers in the Senate while strengthening the numerical advantage of the ruling APC in the upper legislative chamber.
