Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has confirmed the successful evacuation of the first group of Ghanaians from Iran to Turkey amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

In a Facebook update on Friday, June 20, the minister revealed that similar arrangements are being made to evacuate Ghanaian nationals currently in Israel.

Earlier in the week, he held high-level meetings with the ambassadors of both Iran and Israel to outline the government’s emergency evacuation strategy.

This plan was designed to secure border access and coordinate safe passage for citizens in affected regions.

“These engagements have also deepened our understanding of the ongoing conflict,” he noted.

Ablakwa addressed Ghana’s diplomatic stance following recent remarks by the Israeli Ambassador, who criticized Ghana’s voting record at international forums. He defended Ghana’s right to act under its longstanding foreign policy principles.

“I reminded the ambassador that Ghana’s decisions are guided by our national interests and are grounded in the 1992 Constitution, along with our commitment to peacebuilding, non-alignment, multilateralism, and adherence to international law,” he stated.

The minister concluded with a renewed call for an immediate ceasefire and a peaceful, diplomatic resolution to the conflict.
