Fire has destroyed part of the Pong Tamale Senior High School girls’ dormitory, heightening concerns regarding fire safety in boarding schools.
This comes after a fire razed the Tolon SHS dormitory in the same Northern Region.
Initial reports suggest that the fire started in the washrooms, causing panic among students and leading to prompt actions to notify emergency responders to avert further escalation.

Firefighters from the Savelugu Fire Station were swiftly dispatched to the school and successfully contained and extinguished the fire, preventing it from spreading to other dormitories and academic buildings on the campus.
The complete extent of the damage remains to be assessed, as investigations are ongoing to determine the impact on students’ belongings and school property.
