The Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Dr. Ziblim Barri Iddi, has hinted that the President will soon inaugurate the Ghana Film Authority that will regulate the activities of filmmakers in Ghana.

Dr. Ziblim  made this revelation during his keynote address at the opening of the 2019 edition of the Blackstar International Film Festival at the Alliance Francaise in Accra on Tuesday, August 20.

Giving further details, the Deputy Minister said the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, has submitted to the president the membership list of the authority.

“The minister understands the urgency of it (The Film Authority) and is trying so hard to get the president to act on this in time,” he assured patrons at the opening ceremony.

He also thanked the previous administration for starting the process of setting up an authority to regulate filmmakers in the country.

The Film Authority will serve as a regulatory body for the film sector and provide the legal framework for the production, regulation and nurturing of the film industry. It will also regulate other activities in the sector including taxation.
