Father killed, son injured in Taselema robbery

A heartbreaking incident has left a family shattered and a community in fear after a man was shot and killed in a ruthless armed robbery attack along the Bole-Bamboi highway near Taselema.

His son, in his 20s, is also battling for his life after sustaining critical injuries.

The father, Balenbogma, who is in his 50s, and his son were travelling from Sunyani to Lawra to attend the burial of their late mother.

However, what was meant to be a solemn journey became a scene of terror around 6:30 p.m., when the robbers struck.

Commercial drivers who witnessed the ambush managed to escape and shared their harrowing experiences. They said the robbers regularly exploit the deteriorating road to stage such attacks, leaving both travellers and locals vulnerable.

There have also been reports of female passengers suffering sexual violence during similar robberies, sparking outrage across nearby communities.

Balenbogma’s body has been taken to the Taselema Polyclinic mortuary, while his son is receiving treatment at the same facility.

As fear and grief grip the region, residents and commuters are pleading with authorities to improve road conditions and increase security patrols.
