Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has claimed that the Ministry of Sports and Recreation owes him about GH¢5 million for promotional work he and his team carried out for the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking in an interview on Friday, August 28, the musician expressed frustration over what he described as the ministry’s failure to settle payments for advertisements and promotional activities done to support Ghana’s national team.
According to Shatta Wale, he and his team used their platforms to promote the Black Stars, but have not received payment for the work.
“Ministry of Sports owes me about five million Ghana cedis. They didn’t pay me for the ads I did for the Black Stars,” he said.
He also questioned his ability to support government officials, saying his experience with the ministry had left him disappointed.
“How can I be okay with any of Mahama’s appointees? So far, they have all been bad,” he added.
Shatta Wale further alleged that both the Sports and Finance ministries had been referring him from one office to another whenever he sought clarification on the outstanding payment.
“The Ministry of Sports and Finance keep tossing me, they don’t answer my calls,” he claimed.
The musician has previously shown strong support for the Black Stars’ 2026 World Cup campaign. In March 2026, he pledged $100,000 towards the national team’s fundraising campaign.
The fundraising campaign was launched to mobilise financial support for Ghana’s participation in the tournament, with the government setting a target of $30 million from corporate Ghana and the public.
