Energy sector showing strong signs of recovery – Energy Minister
Ghana’s Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has affirmed that the country’s energy sector is on a path to stability and recovery, thanks to a series of ongoing reforms and targeted interventions.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series at Jubilee House on Wednesday, July 16, the Minister said key improvements are already visible, especially in the power sector.
“We can confidently say the energy sector is stabilising. The reforms we’ve implemented both technical and financial along with infrastructure upgrades, are beginning to yield results,” Mr. Jinapor stated.
He noted that the frequent and erratic power outages that marked the early months of the year have been significantly reduced.
“When we took office, the country was facing persistent power cuts. Today, we’re experiencing a more stable and reliable electricity supply and the public can see and feel the difference.”
The Minister also addressed concerns over scheduled maintenance at the ENI gas facility, which some feared would trigger widespread blackouts. He reassured the public that no such disruptions occurred.
Reacting to public commentary and light-hearted reactions on social media, Mr. Jinapor said it underscores the critical role electricity plays in people’s daily lives.
“Some people joked that the Minister forgot to switch the lights off. It shows how essential power is and we are committed to building on these gains and ensuring consistent, reliable electricity for all.”
The Minister reiterated the government’s dedication to ensuring that reforms continue delivering real, lasting improvements for Ghanaians across the country.
