Energy Ministry assures minimal disruption as WAPCo undertakes planned maintenance

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, together with the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), has provided assurances to the public regarding minimal disruption to electricity supply in light of the upcoming maintenance works by the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo).

In a statement released on Saturday, January 17, 2026, GRIDCo indicated that it had received formal notification from WAPCo concerning essential maintenance activities on its gas facilities in Ghana, which are set to take place on Sunday, January 18, 2026, from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Consequently, there will be a temporary halt in gas supply to thermal power plants situated in Tema during the maintenance timeframe.

GRIDCo emphasised that the scheduled maintenance is crucial for ensuring the safety, reliability, and integrity of the gas supply infrastructure.

The company reassured the public that sufficient alternative fuel arrangements have been established to guarantee the continuity of power generation and to uphold a stable electricity supply throughout the maintenance period.

The statement further noted that stakeholders throughout the energy value chain will remain actively involved and will closely monitor the maintenance activities to ensure their successful execution.

GRIDCo expressed its regret for any inconvenience that may occur during the maintenance period and requested the public’s understanding and cooperation.
