El-Wak stays open as GAF closes recruitment centres in Accra

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced that all recruitment centres in Accra will be closed on Monday, November 24, 2025, as part of the 2025/2026 enlistment exercise except for the El-Wak Sports Stadium.

All applicants who have not yet been screened are required to report to El-Wak for the continuation of their documentation and body selection processes.

This decision follows the tragic stampede at El-Wak Stadium on November 12, 2025, which resulted in six deaths and left several other applicants injured.

In the meantime, senior military officers involved in the recruitment exercise have been asked to step aside to allow for a fair and transparent investigation into the incident.

GAF reaffirmed its commitment to supporting those affected by the tragedy.

“Injured applicants are still receiving free treatment at the 37 Military Hospital, and a “special recruitment package” will be provided to them once they recover, as well as to the families of the deceased”.
