Education Ministry orders GES to probe viral video of SHS students displaying charms

The Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, has instructed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to investigate a disturbing video circulating on social media.

This viral video captures male students from Islamic Senior High School and Sakafia Islamic Senior High School in Kumasi, displaying charms that they claim provide spiritual protection.

In response to the incident, Dr. Apaak made a Facebook post on Thursday, January 15, 2026, in which he revealed that he had referred the issue to the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) for prompt action.

“I’ve forwarded the attached story and the associated disturbing video to the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service for action,” he stated.

The Deputy Minister emphasised that the government will not tolerate violence or indiscipline within the nation’s educational institutions, especially conflicts involving students from different schools.

“We cannot accept violence in our schools and between students from different schools. We are determined to restore discipline in our educational system,” he said.

Dr. Apaak also urged parents to take a more proactive role in overseeing and guiding their children’s behaviour while at school, encouraging them to consistently warn their wards against misconduct.

“Parents must take an interest in the behaviour of their wards in school. Parents ought to regularly caution their wards against misconduct and acts of indiscipline,” he noted.

He added that the reinstatement of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) is a strategic policy decision aimed at enhancing collaboration between schools and parents, particularly at the primary and secondary education levels.

“We restored PTAs because we believe parents have a crucial and collaborative role to play in the education of their wards, especially at the pre-tertiary level,” Dr. Apaak added.
