Residents of Kofinyamekrom, a farming community in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region, have expressed disappointment over the deplorable state of the road network in the area despite efforts by locals to improve the situation.
According to residents, community members mobilised funds and other resources to support the reshaping of sections of the road using machines under the government’s District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP).
However, the Queen Mother of Kofinyamekrom, Obaapanin Adwoa Boaduwaa has expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of the exercise, stating that despite her personal contributions and efforts towards improving the road network, the work carried out under the programme has not produced the expected results.

“We initially intended to contribute towards the construction of a school. However, after the funds were raised, we realised the road also needed urgent attention, so the focus shifted to fixing it. We were even asked to purchase fuel for the work. In total, we gave them GH¢20,000, but the machine was on site for only three days.
“I confronted them about the situation and they later returned to continue the work. After some time, they claimed the money had been exhausted. Because the road was important to the community, I even took a loan to enable them to continue.
“When they eventually said the work was completed, I used the road myself but I was not satisfied with the condition. I therefore want them to return to the site and properly fix the road,” she said.”
