Driver’s mate granted GHC60k bail for defiling 7-yr-old girl
The Gender-based Circuit Court in Accra presided over by Christina Cann has granted a GHC60,000 bail to a driver’s mate (conductor)who allegedly defiled a seven-year-old girl at Nungua.
The accused, Philip Osekre, pleaded not guilty to the defilement charge.
As part of his bail conditions, Philip was to produce two sureties, one of whom is to be justified.
The 29-year-old driver’s mate is expected to reappear before the court on September 11, 2020.
The prosecutor in the case, Inspector Kofi Atimbiri, told the court on August 11, that the complainant, Joyce Atoyiri is the mother of the seven-year-old victim.
Inspector Atimbiri explained that the accused lived with the family of the victim in the same house.
The prosecutor said on July 22, 2020, the complainant sent the victim to throw wastewater away. However, the prosecutor said the complainant waited for a while and there was no sign of the victim returning home.
The complainant then began a search for her daughter (victim). She later spotted the accused person fondling her daughter close to the accused’s door.
The prosecutor said she then whisked her daughter away from the grips of the accused.
He said the “complainants then questioned the victim as to why the accused had clung to her. It was there that the victim disclosed to the complainant that on the previous day, July 21, 2020, the accused sent her on an errand and on her return, accused lured her into his room and had sexual intercourse with her.
“The complainant,” he said, “upon hearing that took the victim to the Nungua Police Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit to lodge a complaint.
“A medical report form was issued to her. The complainant then took the victim to the hospital, and she was treated and a full report submitted.
“[The] accused was arrested and after investigation, charged with the offence,” the prosecutor told the court.
