COVID-19: Be compassionate, share hand sanitizers – EP moderator urges churches

As Ghana turns to God in prayer during this period of an outbreak of the coronavirus, Moderator of the Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Church, Rt. Rev Seth Senyo Agidi, has called on churches to show compassion to the citizenry.

He wants churches to distribute hand sanitizers in the wake of the outbreak in Ghana.

According to Rt. Rev Agidi, this is the opportune time for churches to show kindness especially when it forms part of the calling of the church.

“This is the time to show compassion to people and the flock, If we can buy more sanitisers and share for people that is great. We must demonstrate our calling by showing kindness to humans in these challenging times.”

His comments come days after a pastor, Brian Amoateng, took to his Facebook page to announce to the public to purchase their own hand sanitizers and not expect any from churches if they need them.

His video sparked uproar on social media with many criticizing his comments, describing his comments as insensitive.

President Akufo-Addo declared Wednesday, March 25 as the national day for fasting and prayer against COVID-19 which has so far infected 214 persons and killed five people.
