Contracts for sale: Dissolve entire board! – Akufo-Addo told
Civil society group, Citizen Movement against Corruption (CMaC) is calling for the immediate removal of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), Adjenim Boateng Adjei and the entire board of directors following a documentary exposing alleged fraud by some members of the institution.
According to the group, the latest discovery of corrupt practice in the PPA by Investigative journalist, Manesseh Azure Awuni is the ugliest form of political corruption in the history of the country.
Speaking to The Ghana Report, the Co-Chair of CMaC, Edem Senanu said there must be an expeditious investigation and subsequent prosecution of all persons found culpable of such corrupt practices.
Mr. Senanu noted, “It is very disappointing that the head of a public agency which is supposed to ensure compliance with the procurement laws of this country will engage himself in such serious violations”.
He added “It is even more disappointing to find that the board of the Authority, who are supposed to supervise Mr. AB Adjei in the performance of his duty are the same people who will aid and abet him in these violations by granting approval for the award of these contracts.”
The Citizen Movement against Corruption is therefore calling for the immediate dissolution of the PPA Board for superintending over the activities of Mr. Adjei.
In Manasseh’s latest Investigative piece, he delved into activities of the PPA’s CEO, Adjenim Boateng Adjei. The PPA boss, according to the documentary, had his privately owned company, Talent Discovery Limited (TDL) sell government contracts at rates of between 15% and 20%.
The expose has triggered a number of actions with the President first suspending the PPA boss and subsequently referring his alleged conduct to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice(CHRAJ) and the Office of Special Prosecutor.
