A bridge linking Enchi and Elubo over the Boin River at Boinso in the Western North Region has collapsed.
This has left many residents and travellers stranded on the river bank.
The Sunday morning incident has isolated Boinso and other communities from the others in the area.
This has disrupted community activities, particularly the transportation of goods which has affected local businesses.
Although there were no casualties, the collapsed bridge has blocked access to essential services.
The bridge is the community’s sole reliance for access to schools, markets, and healthcare services.
Speaking to the media, some residents lamented the dire consequences the situation will have on them if it is not fixed soon.
They added that the Enchi-Elubo bridge has been in a deplorable condition for years and all calls for repairs were ignored.

The Chief of Boinso, Nana Kwadwo Miah III, also appealed to the authorities for immediate intervention to restore the bridge to ensure the convenience of the affected communities.
Meanwhile, the Western North Regional Minister, Joojo Rocky Obeng, has assured that commuters will soon see the government’s intervention.
He said that although the road is still under construction, the government envisaged this situation and started the construction of a new bridge which is near completion.
This comes after a steel bridge located at Saikope in the Mepe area that connects the North Tongu town of Juapong to the Central Tongu capital town, Adidome, collapsed.
It collapsed in January 2024, when a fully loaded trailer carrying salt attempted to cross the bridge.
This happened when Mepe was dealing with the aftermath of flooding caused by the spillage from the Volta River Authority (VRA).
Fortunately, there were no reported fatalities resulting from the incident.
