Michael Carrick has insisted that his recent comments were not intended as a farewell, while acknowledging that Manchester United’s performances and results have fallen below expectations.
The former United midfielder addressed the situation amid speculation surrounding his future, making it clear that his remarks should not be interpreted as a goodbye.
“It was not a farewell from me,” Carrick said.
However, he admitted that the team’s struggles had contributed to the difficult situation, stressing that the performances and results had not been good enough.
“But the situation is where we are, and we haven’t had results and we haven’t had performances that have been good enough,” he added.
Carrick’s comments come against the backdrop of growing scrutiny over Manchester United’s form, with expectations remaining high given the club’s history and ambitions.
The former midfielder, who enjoyed a successful playing career at Old Trafford, has remained a prominent figure in discussions about the club’s direction and coaching setup.
His clarification suggests that his earlier remarks were not meant to signal an immediate departure. Nevertheless, his acknowledgement of the team’s shortcomings underlines the pressure surrounding the current situation.
