‘Bring 12 sheep’- Curse-invoking Offinso NPP supporters fined

Offinso traditional leaders have fined some aggrieved New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters who invoked curses in the Offin River, in the Ashanti Region.

The Traditional Council in the Offinso South constituency has demanded 12 sheep, six fowls, one dog, six crates of egg, and a box of Schnapps to pacify the gods.

The chiefs explained that it was a taboo to curse anyone in the river. According to them, the deity that resides in the river abhors such requests.

The chiefs arrived at a decision after consultation, and a summon was issued out to the curse-invoking supporters to appear before the paramount chief of Offinso, Nana Wiafe Akenten III.

Supporters of disqualified NPP aspirants invoke gods to strike party executives

Baamuhene of Offinso, Nana Kofi Adu Boahen, told Kumasi FM that the culprits had committed an abomination.

“We don’t use the river for curses. We only ask for blessings and positive prayer requests from the deity. Moreover, it is only the Offinso chief who has the authority to go and slaughter a sheep in the river. It is a big spiritual challenge for us. A few days after the act, we witnessed a bad omen,” he explained.

The NPP delegates rained curses on the party’s leadership for disqualifying Dr Isaac Yaw Opoku, an aspirant who wanted to contest the parliamentary primaries.

Aggrieved supporters accused the party leadership of manipulating the process to make the incumbent MP, Ben Abdalla Bandah, the sole contestant.

In response, the NPP has directed that these disgruntled supporters are suspended.

General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu, described the conduct of the delegated as an “awkward behaviour” that infringed the party’s constitution.

Besides Offinso, some NPP supporters in Sekyere East, Asokwa, New Juaben and Bekwai have also invoked curses at party executive over the disqualification of their preferred candidates.
