Two individuals have tragically lost their lives in Atuba, a suburb within the Binduri District of the Upper East Region.

The victims, identified as Mohammed, a veterinary officer, and one local pastor, were shot during a violent incident in a crowded marketplace on Monday, March 17, 2025.

The reason behind this attack remains uncertain. However, it is believed to be connected to the ongoing conflict in Bawku, which is contributing to rising tensions in the region.

Reports indicate that armed assailants arrived on motorcycles and opened fire on unsuspecting traders, resulting in the immediate deaths of the two men.

Since the revival of the Bawku conflict in October 2024, the casualty toll has unfortunately reached at least 76 individuals, leading to intensified demands for a sustainable resolution to the violence.

In response to the unrest, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has initiated efforts to mediate and foster peace in the troubled area amid ongoing calls for calm.

This latest killing comes after some unknown gunmen reportedly killed three other individuals at Gumyoko, a suburb of the Binduri District in the Upper East Region.

The victims included two men and a woman.

Reports revealed that the assailants entered the residence of the victims on Saturday, March 8, 2025, and opened fire, killing all three on the spot.
