The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2028 flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has announced plans to improve the party’s policy development and leadership training programmes.

He shared these plans after meeting with the Secretary-General of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), Dr Mark Speich, in Accra.

The meeting took place at the KAS Ghana office on Thursday, October 29, 2026. They discussed Ghana’s political and economic future, the reorganisation of the NPP and ways to strengthen the party’s relationship with the German political foundation.

In a Facebook post after the meeting, Dr. Bawumia said rebuilding the NPP remained a major priority. He explained that the party wanted to improve its structures and respond better to the needs and expectations of Ghanaians.

He identified the Patriotic Institute and the NPP Policy Unit as important parts of the party’s plans. He said these initiatives would help train future leaders, encourage young people to take part in politics and develop practical policies.

Dr. Bawumia also explained that the party wanted its policies to be based on facts and research, affordable to implement and designed to achieve their intended results.

He said the main goal was to build an NPP that focused on ideas, had stronger structures and encouraged more people to participate in its political activities.

The former Vice President also praised KAS for its long-standing partnership with the NPP. He expressed hope that the relationship between the party and the foundation would grow stronger in the coming months.
