Bawumia donates GH₵50,000 to Hasaacas Ladies
Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has awarded Hasaacas Ladies an amount of Gh₵50,000 for winning the maiden edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League Zone B qualifying tournament.
The tournament, held in the Ivorian capital, Abidjan, saw the Ghanaian champions beat their Nigerian counterparts Rivers Angels FC 3-1 in the final.
The win also secured Hasaacas Ladies a ticket to participate in the inaugural edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League tournament to be staged in Egypt in November this year.
On Wednesday, August 18, 2021, the club paid a courtesy call on the Vice President at the Jubilee House to present to him the trophy and also thank him for his support for the squad.
Dr Bawumia, who was delighted with the club’s performance, presented a cheque of the said amount to the players, technical body, and other team officials and reiterated the government’s commitment to the development of women’s football in the country.
“As a government, we are really committed to supporting our women in sports to realize their potential, both on and off the pitch,” Dr. Bawumia said when the team called on him at the Jubilee House.
“I spoke to the President and in recognition of this major honor you have done the country, I am on his behalf giving you 50,000 Ghana cedis.
“You have written your names in the history books by becoming the first team to win this competition and now we look forward to you replicating this performance in the next tournament in Egypt.
Before the WAFU tournament, Hasaacas Ladies had conquered the local scene with a seasonal double, winning both the Ghana Women’s Premier League and Women’s FA Cup.
