Ayawaso East vote-buying probe committee to submit report today

The committee set up by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to examine claims of inducement and vote buying during the Ayawaso East parliamentary primary is expected to present its report today, Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

The NDC formed a three-member committee to investigate allegations that certain aspirants participated in bribery during the party’s parliamentary primary, held on Saturday, February 7, 2026.

Among the accusations is a claim that one of the aspirants, Baba Jamal, distributed television sets, money, and other items to delegates in an effort to sway their votes.

Despite Mr. Jamal ultimately winning the election, the result has ignited controversy, with the Majority in Parliament and several prominent members of the NDC demanding that the results be annulled.

Nevertheless, constituency party executives have firmly resisted calls for annulment.

Speaking in an interview, a member of the committee, Inusah Fuseini, stated that the team’s mandate is strictly fact-finding and that its work entails engaging all relevant stakeholders associated with the primaries.

“We are a fact-finding committee, so we must gather evidence. In doing that, we must speak to all persons who were connected to the Ayawaso East NDC primaries,” he said.

Mr. Fuseini clarified that the committee has conducted discussions with party officials who oversaw the election, as well as candidates and party executives at both constituency and regional levels.

“So we are speaking with the party representatives who supervised the election, we are also speaking with the candidates, and some of the constituency executives and regional executives. We will make recommendations to the party,” he added.

The committee’s findings and recommendations are expected to inform the party’s subsequent actions in addressing the allegations surrounding the primaries.
