Asylum Down delegates protest alleged missing transport funds

By

Tension briefly rose in the Asylum Down Electoral Area within the Klottey Korle Constituency as delegates of the New Patriotic Party raised concerns over what they described as missing transport money during the party’s ongoing presidential primaries.

The disagreement centred on allegations that the local electoral area coordinator failed to release GH₵700 said to have been provided by presidential aspirant Dr Bryan Acheampong to support delegates’ transportation for the voting exercise.

According to the aggrieved delegates, the money was meant to ensure their smooth movement to the polling centre but was never fully handed over.

A video circulating online and shared by Accra based Citi FM showed visibly frustrated delegates confronting the coordinator in public.

Emotions ran high as several members demanded answers, insisting they were being treated unfairly compared to their counterparts in other areas.

Some delegates claimed that while others across the constituency had received their full transport allowances, those in Asylum Down were either shortchanged or left out completely.

The situation drew attention from passers by and party supporters nearby as voices grew louder and tempers flared.

One female delegate, clearly distressed, warned of spiritual consequences if the issue was not resolved, while others joined in a chorus demanding accountability from the coordinator.

While the party continues its internal process, officials are yet to issue an official response to the accusations raised by the Asylum Down delegates.
