Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has destooled the Chief of Adumoa in the Afigya Kwabre District of the Ashanti Region for violating customary procedures.
The destooled chief, Nana Osei Tiri Ababio, is also accused of engaging in a series of disputes with other chiefs over land issues.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on Monday, August 14, at the Kumasi Traditional Council, revealed that Nana Osei Tiri Ababio had been cautioned several times to ensure that he rules based on the customs of the land and to desist from engaging in disputes.
It is reported that the chief of Adumoa had been summoned before Asantehene four consecutive times over the same offences.
In front of other traditional rulers within his territory, the Asantehene called for the removal of the royal slippers of Nana Osei Tiri Ababio, signifying that he had been stripped of his authority.
The Chief of Aduamoa, who doubles as the Nkonsonhene, has been on the throne for about 20 years.
The destoolment will be the third in three months.
On Thursday, August 10, 2023, the Chief of Bekwai-Abodom was destooled following illegal mining allegations within his jurisdiction.
Nana Saforo Koto was accused of selling lands to illegal miners against the Asantehene’s directives as the government seeks solutions to deal with illegal mining in the country.
In May 2023, the Chief of Antoa Nana Kwame Owusu Agyeman was also destooled following several offences, including multiple sale of lands.
