Pressure group, Arise Ghana, has announced plans of taking the ‘Krom Ay3 Hye’ demo to Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region.

The demonstration, which is in line with championing the interest and welfare of Ghanaians is set to come off on 22 August 2022.

A leader of the group, Bernard Mornah, revealed this at a presser on Tuesday, 12 July 2022.

“Through this demonstration which will be the second of the series of demonstrations we intend to hold across the length and breadth of the country, Ghanaians from all walks of life will congregate in the garden city to protest against excruciating economic hardships imposed on them by the callous Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government,” he said.

The pressure group also asked the Ghana Police Service to drop all charges against 31 of its members who were arrested during the maiden demonstration exercise in June.

During the protest on June 28, some protesters were arrested by the police for their individual roles in the violence that marred the first demonstration at Circle.

A statement from the police said they “were arrested for their participation in violent attacks on the police and some members of the public, including school children”.

The police said available video footage of the event is being reviewed, and all other persons identified for taking part in the attacks and inciting the violence will be arrested and brought to face justice. The earlier 29 persons arrested were all granted police inquiry bail.

But leaders of the group, at the presser on Tuesday, said all innocent persons arrested, will have legal representation as they are poised to prove their innocence.

“AriseGhana will continue to follow up on all victims of the brutalities of the Dampare-led police service until their full recovery. We have instructed our lawyers to institute legal action against the Ghana Police Service and the Republic for the payment of appropriate and adequate compensation to all injured persons.

“We shall not rest until all injured persons get justice. Also, AriseGhana will continue to provide the necessary legal support for all the innocent protestors who were arrested and are currently being persecuted by the tyrannical Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government until their innocence is vindicated,” Bernard Mornah added.

Motivation for the demonstration?

I) Protest against persistent and astronomical hikes in fuel prices by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government that has imposed excruciating economic hardships on Ghanaians.

II) Protest against the imposition of the obnoxious E-Levy on the already-burdened Ghanaian people by the insensitive Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government.

III) Demand a full-scale and bi-partisan parliamentary probe into COVID-19 expenditures.

IV) Protest against the grabbing of State lands by officials of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government, particularly the de-classification of huge portions of the Achimota Forest Reserve.

V) Protest against the increased rate of police brutalities and state-sponsored killing of innocent Ghanaians, as well as the growing culture of human rights abuses under the watch of President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.
