Amidu will prove himself by December – Deputy AG
A Deputy Attorney General, Joseph Dindiok Kpemka, has explained why the Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu had been slow in prosecuting cases.
According to him, the lawsuit against Mr Amidu’s eligibility to be in office had slowed him down.
Mr. Amidu had come under a lot of criticism for delaying in discharging his duties.
In his defence, Mr Kpemka said the Special Prosecutor would be prosecuting a backlog of cases by December.
“Now that he is free to act, I can assure you that yes… I don’t speak for him. But I can assure you that in the coming days, he will be acting, there’s no doubt about that”, he said.
Supreme Court dismisses suit against Martin Amidu’s capacity to be Special Prosecutor
According to him, the Special Prosecutor had difficulties executing his mandate effectively owing to the lawsuit filed against him.
Former Deputy Attorney General, Dr Dominic Ayine, had challenged Mr Amidu’s appointment due to his age at the time he was given the job.
But a Supreme Court five-two majority decision ruled in Mr Amidu’s favour.
According to Mr Kpemka,” President Akufo-Addo never made a mistake when he appointed Martin Amidu as Special Prosecutor”.
“This is a man [Amidu] with the incorruptible track record. This is a man with a very solid public record in fighting graft. And this is a man ready and prepared to fight to protect the public purse”, he told Class FM in an interview.
He was hopeful and confident that Mr Amidu would have made some progress by the end of December.
