Aliu Mahama was a man of great integrity – Akufo-Addo
Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, characterising him as generous, welcoming, and a man of integrity who served as a significant support for both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the country.
Recalling cherished memories, he shared how the former Vice President’s residence frequently became a refuge for relaxation following lengthy and intense political campaigns.
While speaking at the 14th Commemorative Adu’a held in memory of the late Aliu Mahama, former President Akufo-Addo remarked that his passing on November 16, 2012, at the age of 66, was painfully abrupt.
“He was a most generous and hospitable host. This was a very honourable and respectable man. A man of great integrity who worked very hard for our country. His death continues to be a matter of profound sadness to me. He went far too early, and that is the way of God,” he said.
Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia also paid tribute to Aliu Mahama, reminiscing about the fatherly guidance and support he provided him.
“He used to visit my late father quite often when he was in the university studying engineering. He came home often, and then later on, he was the Managing Director of State Construction Corporation in Tamale, and I used to look forward to his visits, where he would come and pay courtesy calls on my father. The reason was that he will not leave without giving some money,” he stated.
