Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, the former Government Spokesperson on Governance and Security, has called on the people of Akwatia to come out in large numbers for the Akwatia by-election scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
He reassured constituents that the notable security presence aims to maintain peace and order, rather than intimidate voters.
In an interview, Dr. Boakye-Danquah encouraged residents not to be alarmed by the number of security personnel deployed. Instead, he urged them to view this as a commitment to ensuring a free, transparent, and incident-free election process.
“I want to appeal to the people of Akwatia that the presence of the security and the Electoral Commission is to ensure that the election is incident-free and peaceful because of the history of past incidents in Akwatia. No one should be afraid to come out and vote. Do not be intimidated at all,” he noted.
He also rallied constituents to fulfil their civic duty by supporting the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate, Solomon Asumadu.
“It is important that you come and vote for the New Patriotic Party candidate. The high presence of security is for your peace and safety. You can return to your work after voting, but I urge all constituents to come out in your numbers, vote massively for the NPP candidate, and let’s ensure that Akwatia remains blue,” he added in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report on Channel One TV.
Dr. Boakye-Danquah expressed his belief that the NPP will successfully retain the Akwatia seat, which has become vacant due to the passing of former MP Ernest Kumi.
The Electoral Commission has announced that the by-election will take place on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
His remarks follow the deployment of approximately 600 security personnel to the area, with Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno assuring the public of the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to creating a safe environment for the election in the Eastern Region.
