Ghanaian actress Portia Asare Boateng has recently shared her experience with domestic abuse during her marriage.
Speaking in a video shared on Instagram on December 12, 2025, she recounted a shocking incident where her ex-husband physically assaulted her for the first time, also directing his violence toward their children.
“God is my witness, that was the first time he beat me. He even turned the anger on our children… The case even went to the Odorkor Police Station,” she revealed.
While physical violence was rare, Portia said emotional abuse was a constant part of her married life. She described enduring verbal attacks and other forms of psychological harm, which deeply affected her.
“He wasn’t someone who used to beat me, but when it came to emotional abuse, he was fond of it. It was painful,” she admitted.
Turning her painful experiences into a mission to help others, Portia has launched a foundation to support women facing domestic and emotional abuse.
Through this initiative, she hopes to provide guidance, encouragement, and resources for victims, ensuring they know they are not alone.
