As festive activities continue to fill the streets of Accra, the Mayor of the capital, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has offered strong reassurance to residents by openly backing the work of the Metropolitan Security Council and allied emergency agencies.

The Mayor met members of the Metropolitan Security Council as part of ongoing coordination by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to keep the city safe during the Christmas and New Year season.

He used the opportunity to thank the agencies for their dedication at a time when public spaces, markets and roads are especially busy.

According to him, while the Assembly had anticipated a few challenges as the festive period peaked, operations across the metropolis had remained largely calm.

This, he said, reflected careful planning and the commitment of officers working long hours to protect lives and property.

The Mayor disclosed that about 60 per cent of the Assembly’s festive operational plan had already been carried out, with the remaining work expected to continue into the coming days.

He acknowledged that limited resources could slow progress, but assured the agencies that support would not stop.

In recent weeks, the AMA has provided vehicles to assist with security patrols and enforcement, a move the Mayor described as the beginning of broader logistical support.

He explained that the assistance forms part of the wider Resetting Accra agenda, aimed at making reforms visible and practical for frontline workers.

Praising the Ghana National Fire Service, the Mayor said its officers had been “fantastic” and confirmed plans to increase fire safety presence in busy markets.

He also announced that an appreciation engagement for street-level agencies would be organised after December to boost morale and teamwork.

Looking ahead, the Mayor noted that operations would continue into the new year without pause, urging all agencies to maintain unity and a strong sense of shared responsibility.
