A Sizzling Success: Reflections on WESGOSA’s inter-year groups Barbecue Fun-Day

The Wesley Grammar Old Students Association (WESGOSA) inter-year groups Barbecue Fun-Day on November 29, 2025, was a resounding success, bringing together alumni for a day of laughter, music, and delicious meals.

The event, held at the school’s premises, was a testament to the strong bonds forged during the school days and the enduring spirit of camaraderie among Wesley Grammar’s old students.

As I walked through the gates, I was greeted by the enticing aroma of grilled meats and the sound of lively music. The atmosphere was electric, with current students and teachers mingling, laughing, and having a great time with some alumni.

One of the highlights of the event was the variety of barbecue dishes and sumptuous Ghanaian meals provided by the various year groups.

But the Barbecue Fun-Day was more than just about food; it was about building relationships and creating memories. The event provided a unique opportunity for past students to interact with some of their teachers in a more relaxed setting, fostering a sense of camaraderie and mutual respect.

The headmistress of the school, Mrs. Barbara Juliet Tekyiwaa Thompson, an alumna of the 1989 year group, was also on hand to mingle with her year group members and some old students, demonstrating her commitment to being approachable and accessible.

The event also featured a range of fun activities, including dancing competitions, singing and among others. Students participated enthusiastically, showcasing their talents and skills in various areas. The school’s cultural troupe also put on an impressive performance, featuring a range of musical genres that catered to different tastes.

What struck me most about the event was the sense of togetherness and inclusivity that pervaded every aspect of the day.

The Barbecue Fun-Day was more than just a social gathering; it was an opportunity for old students to remind themselves of the most anticipated 70th anniversary, starting from March 7 to March 15, 2026.

Wesley Grammar School has come a long way since its founding, producing generations of outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to Ghana’s development.

The school’s motto, “Love, Truth and Service”, is a guiding principle that has shaped the lives of countless old students, equipping them with the necessary values, knowledge, and ethics to succeed in life.

The Barbecue Fun-Day was a poignant reminder that the Wesley Grammar community is more than just an alumni association; it is a family bound together by shared experiences, morals, and a commitment to excellence.

As Wesley Grammar School prepares to celebrate its 70th anniversary in March 2026, I do not doubt that the association will continue to be a force for good, promoting the values of community service, academic excellence, and mutual support that define the Wesley Grammar School experience.

As an old student, I am proud to be part of the Wesley Grammar School family. To my fellow WESGOSANS, please mark your calendars, and let us gather to celebrate our 70 years of excellence and great achievements next year in March 2026.
