A Plus calls on EOCO to investigate GFA

The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has called on the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and subject its finances to independent scrutiny.

He believes the international investigations that rocked FIFA should serve as a reminder that football governing bodies must be held accountable for their financial dealings and operations.

According to A Plus, Ghanaian football has abundant talent and resources, but a lack of transparency and accountability is undermining its progress.

In a social media post, the MP contrasted the achievements of Ghanaian musicians with the performance of the GFA, arguing that artistes such as Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy and Samini have made significant strides despite limited institutional support.

He said: “Look at what Shatta Wale and his Shatta Movement, as well as Sarkodie have achieved this year without government funding or backing from international organisations. Stonebwoy and SAMINI are next in line to make their mark.

“Now, contrast that with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), an institution that has enjoyed substantial financial support from the government and international football bodies. Yet, in my opinion, its legacy is increasingly defined by scandals, allegations of favouritism in Black Stars selections, questionable visa arrangements, concerns over financial mismanagement and, above all, repeated heartbreak for Ghanaian football fans,” he said.

“The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) must urgently turn its attention to the GFA, subject its financial dealings to rigorous independent scrutiny and investigate any credible evidence of wrongdoing. The international investigations that shook FIFA should serve as a reminder that no football institution is above accountability.

“Ghanaian football does not lack talent, passion or resources. What it desperately needs is transparency, responsible leadership and measurable results that justify the enormous public investment. EOCO, ACT NOW!!,” he added.

A Plus’s call comes amid his criticism of the GFA’s leadership and its handling of Ghanaian football.

He maintains that greater transparency, responsible management and tangible results are necessary to restore public confidence in the country’s football administration.
