Ghanaian musician Kelvynboy says he plans to release an EP in early 2027 followed by another album later in the year, despite having only recently released his second studio album, Second Step.
Kelvynboy made the disclosure during an interview on Asaase Radio’s Nytelife programme on Tuesday (6 October 2026).
“I’m going to drop my next EP in February, March and then in 2027, and then the same time around this time in 2027, I’ll drop another album,” he said.
The musician said he has accumulated a large catalogue of unreleased music, giving him enough material for the planned projects.
“There’s a lot of things you need to do. Lots of music that I’ve made,” he said.
Kelvynboy said selecting the 12 songs for Second Step was one of the most difficult parts of putting the album together, revealing that the final tracklist was chosen from about 100 songs.
“We had to select these 12 songs from like a hundred songs,” he said.
He also said he deliberately worked with emerging producers on the project, arguing that artists with promising sounds deserve opportunities to establish themselves.
“If the person has the sound that I’m looking for, you go for it. It might be the breakthrough for the person as well,” he said.
Kelvynboy cited his previous collaboration with producer Samsney, who was relatively unknown at the time, as an example of how established artists can help expose emerging talent.
The musician also identified “Blue Ticks” as the song on Second Step that he believes best represents Ghana.
He said the song reflects Ghanaian life and carries a sound he considers distinctly local.
Kelvynboy also defended the growing support for Ghanaian music, saying the situation has improved as digital streaming has given local musicians greater access to audiences.
“I think it’s changing. It’s getting better,” he said.
He urged Ghanaians to support local musicians by listening to and streaming their work.
“You support more. You stream more,” he said, adding that Ghanaian musicians can now reach significant streaming milestones within a relatively short period.
Kelvynboy said he would continue making music beyond current trends, insisting that his goal is to create records that remain relevant over time.
“We don’t make music for the moment. Because something is trending or something is going on. Not for the moment,” he said.
He pointed to his 2017 breakthrough song “Toffee” as an example of music he believes has remained relevant years after its release.
The musician said his priority is to make music that can continue to connect with audiences long after its initial release.
